According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a Town of Paris man has been arrested for violating the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

The investigation began when the Child Advocacy Center was notified that 41-year-old Nathan Cress, who is a Level 3 Sex Offender, had not been residing at the home he had listed on the registry in the Town of Paris. It is required by law that sex offenders must change their address withing 10 days of moving. The case was assigned to Sheriff’s Investigator Mark R. Chrysler.

Investigator Chrysler’s investigation revealed that Cress had not changed his address on the registry and his whereabouts were unknown for a period of time that was greater than 10 days between the months of June and July of 2024. Cress was eventually located in the City of Utica in July, arrested on an unrelated charge and subsequently incarcerated at the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

On August 14, 2024, Investigator Chrysler arrested Cress at the jail for one count of Failing to Register a Change of Address, as required by the registry. Failure to Register a Change of Address is a Class E Felony under the New York State Corrections Law.

Cress is currently being held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility on a Parole Violation and will be arraigned on the Registered Sex Offender Failing to Register a Change of Address charge in the Town of Whitestown Court at a later date.
