According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a City of Rome woman was arrested following a DWI Investigation in the Village of Oneida Castle.
On November 26th, 2024 at around 4:30 am, Deputies responded to the area of State Street in the Village of Oneida Castle regarding a complaint of loud music coming from a motor vehicle. Upon arrival to the scene, the Deputy observed the vehicle parked on State Street with the motor running and loud music coming from the vehicle. The Deputy then began to speak with the occupants of the vehicle. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, the Deputy observed indicators of impairment and asked the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver, identified as 28 year old Nyaishia Bennett, then refused to exit the vehicle.
As the Deputy attempted to remove Bennett from the vehicle, she actively resisted the Deputy until she was ultimately removed and taken into custody. Bennett was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, and Resisting Arrest (all misdemeanors).
Bennett was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement for processing and was turned over to the County Jail pending arraignment. Bennett was ultimately released on her own recognizance to appear in the Town of Vernon Court on a later date.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the City of Sherrill Police Department and the New York State Police.
