According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol, a Rome man, was arrested on January, 2025, following a larceny investigation.

On January 6th, 2025 at approximately 3:38pm, Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to Walmart in the City of Rome, regarding a larceny complaint. Dispatch provided a suspect description and advised responding law enforcement personnel that the suspect was traveling westbound on Rome Taberg Rd, in a stolen motorized shopping cart. Shortly after, deputies conducted a citizen stop of a male fitting the suspect's description, along with an electric shopping cart. The male was detained and further investigation ensued.

Further investigation was conducted by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit and as a result, Austin T. Johnson (35), was charged with Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, an E Felony. Johnson was transported to the LEB for processing. Johnson was released and issued an Appearance Ticket, returnable to Rome City Court at a later date.
