According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on February 02, 2024, at 7:12 PM, Deputies responded to the area of Fairchild Rd and James Rd in the Town of Remsen for a reported two-car property damage motor vehicle accident.

Upon arriving the male operator of the pickup truck was confirmed to have no injuries. While interviewing the male operator of the BMW Deputies noticed him to be disoriented and observed an injury to the operator of the BMW. Medical was then advised to respond for an evaluation.

On scene, Deputies determined that Luis Garcia-Martinez (42) of Remsen, NY, was operating a black 2016 BMW 2 door coupe South on Bardwell Mills RD in the Town of Remsen. Luis was traveling too fast for the current snow-covered road conditions and was unable to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Bardwell Mills and Fairchild Rd. Luis slid past the stop sign into the intersection of Fairchild Rd, where he was struck by a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup that was traveling Eastbound on Fairchild Rd. The pickup was operated by Noah Skermont (24) of Remsen. The collision sent the BMW into a snowbank and came to rest on the Southern shoulder of Fairchild Rd.

Luis was evaluated on scene and then transported by STaR Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for his injuries.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

Luis was issued multiple citations regarding the incident, returnable to the Town of Remsen Court at a later date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on the scene by the New York State Police, Remsen Fire Department, STaR Ambulance, and AGWAY Towing of Holland Patent.
