According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, on April 26, 2025 at about 6:40 AM, Deputies responded to Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland for a reported single car motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, Deputies determined that a 17 year old male, from Utica, NY, was operating a black 2012 BMW in a Westerly direction on Route 5 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle exited the Northern side of the roadway, striking and damaging a mailbox and a utility pole, and then continued off the roadway. The BMW then struck a 2010 Grey GMC Pickup truck that was parked in a driveway and unoccupied, causing damage to the Pickup truck. The BMW came to rest in the driveway against the Pickup. Due to the utility pole being damaged, electrical wires laid across the roadway, resulting in Route 5 being closed to traffic until National Grid was able to respond and clear the roadway.
The driver of the BMW was transported to Wynn Hospital by Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Company for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the BMW was issued traffic summons returnable to Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.
Deputies were assisted on scene by New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Company, Kirkland Auto Tow Company, National Grid and NYS DOT.
