On May 15, 2025, an inmate at the Oneida County Jail was arrested for a felony charge of promoting prison contraband after corrections staff located a weapon during a search of his cell.

According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, the cell of Jesus Romero-Hernandez, age 27 was being searched on May 6, 2025, when a sharpened piece of floor tile was located inside the cell. The floor tile had been sharpened to a point as a weapon and was concealed within the cell in an attempt to avoid detection. Jail staff contacted Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies for investigation and Romero-Hernandez was later charged with one count of promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a class D felony by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit. He was arraigned on the charges in CAP court and remained held. He will appear in the Town of Whitestown Court at a later date for further proceedings.
