According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on 07/11/2025 at approximately 6:00 PM, Deputies responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and SUV on Bartlett Rd in the Town of Westmoreland. The involved motorcycle, a 2024 Kawasaki being operated by William Ballou, 20 of Westmoreland was travelling northbound on Bartlett Rd when a Honda CRV operated by Lorraine Madell, 79 of Clinton entered the roadway from a residential driveway on Bartlett Rd. Upon entering the roadway, a crash occurred when Ballou’s motorcycle struck the driver’s side doors of Madell’s CRV. As a result of the crash, Ballou was pronounced deceased at the scene. Madell was transported to Rome Hospital for a medical evaluation. Members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and Accident Reconstruction Unit also responded to the scene where the crash is being reconstructed and is still under investigation. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Stanwix Heights and Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Departments as well as Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
