Last week, the Sheriff’s Office was proud to be part of the first ever “Safe Schools Mohawk Valley's First Responder Academy”. The event kicked off with a press conference at Proctor High School on Monday and concluded with a graduation ceremony for the 25 participating students back at Proctor on Friday.
In between, the students spent their days at the Sheriff’s Office, Utica Police Department, Utica Fire Department, Homeland Security, and the 911 Center.
While at the Sheriff’s Office, the students learned about the various divisions, specialized units, and responsibilities within the agency.
This program was supported through funding secured by Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon and the academy was administered throughout the week by retired District Attorney Scott McNamara.
