According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol a Utica man has been arrested following an assault at the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

On September 8, 2025, Road Patrol Deputies responded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility regarding an assault complaint. An initial investigation showed that two inmates incarcerated at the Jail were involved in a physical altercation that resulted in one of the inmates being injured. At around 10:00AM Deronn Pool approached another inmate while in a housing unit area and began to strike the other inmate about the head and face area several times with a closed fist. As a result of the altercation the victim suffered a laceration to the forehead area which required medical attention. Due to the nature of the incident the case was turned over to the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit.

On September 25, 2025, Pool was arrested and charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a class D Felony. Pool was processed at the Law Enforcement Building and then turned back over to Corrections staff to await arraignment in CAP Court later that evening.

The Sheriff's Office Forensic Unit also assisted with the investigation.
