According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on 11/03/2025 at around 3:00PM, Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a lost hiker on the Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) Trail System located on Egypt Rd in the Town of Boonville. It was reported that the hiker, a 42 year old male with special needs, was hiking with his mother when he slipped down a ravine and got separated from his mother. His mother lost sight of him and contacted 911. Deputies, along with members of the Boonville Fire Dept, Barneveld Fire Dept, Woodgate Fire Dept, NYS Encon Police, and NYS Forest Rangers began a systematic search of the area using UTVs, ATVs, and drones. At about 5:00PM, the hiker was located by members of Boonville FD safe and uninjured. He was escorted out of the trail system back to Egypt Road where he recieved treatment from Boonville Ambulance for exposure.
