According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a City of Rome man has been arrested following a menacing in progress complaint.
On December 3, 2025, at around 6:45PM Road Patrol Deputies were dispatched by the Oneida County Emergency Services 911 Center, to The Dollar General, located at 8220 Turin Road, in the City of Rome, for a menacing in progress 911 call. It was reported that there was a male suspect on scene who was in the store acting erratically and making store employees uncomfortable. The male suspect then exited the store and confronted another male party, who was not an employee of the store. The male suspect then brandished a large knife and made threats towards the other male party. After a brief verbal confrontation, the male suspect then left the area.
At around 8:56PM the male suspect was located by Road Patrol Deputies and taken into custody without incident. The male suspect was then identified as Arthur John, age 38, of the City of Rome. John was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement building where he was booked and processed. Road Patrol Deputies charged John with 1 count of Menacing in the Second Degree, a class Misdemeanor. A member of the Criminal Investigation Unit also charged John with 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, in the Third Degree, a class D Felony. John was lodged and held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await CAP Court on December 4, 2025.
John was also found to have 3 separate Warrants, 1 out of the New York State Police in Oneida for Petit Larceny, a class A Misdemeanor, and 2 out of the City of Watertown Police for a charge of Resisting Arrest, a class A Misdemeanor, and Illegal Dumping, a Violation.
After arraignment in CAP Court John was held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility on no bail pending further Court proceedings.
