According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on January 17, 2026, at around 1:15 pm the Oneida County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury snowmobile accident on the C7C trail off Brayton Rd, in the Town of Deerfield. Upon arrival the snowmobiler was located, the rider was transported back to the road by the Deerfield and Newport fire departments where he was turned over to the Kuyuhoora Valley Ambulance for transport to the Wynn Hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries. Upon investigation, it was determined that a drainage ditch that crosses the trail had opened due to the warm weather causing a hazard that was hard to see by riders on the trail. The snowmobile club was notified of the hazard. No tickets were issued.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by NYSP, Deerfield and Newport Fire Departments, Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance, and the Sheriff's Office Recreation Unit.
