According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol, on February 24th, 2026, a man from Cleveland New York was arrested regarding a grand larceny investigation.

On December 15th, 2025, a Road Patrol Deputy took a grand larceny complaint in regard to an incident that occurred in the Town of Verona. Through the Deputies investigation, they learned the victim had paid a subcontractor $6,000.00 to complete two different jobs. It was further reported that the victim had provided the subcontractor with an Olympic style diving board valued at $500.00 that was to be installed at one of the jobs; however, no work was completed and the diving board was never installed.

Due to the nature of the incident, the investigation was turned over to members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU). Investigators learned the victim was in fact out a total of $6,500.00 after paying the subcontractor, 44-year-old Matthew Tanner, $6,000.00 to complete the jobs and providing him with the $500.00 diving board.

On February 24th, 2026, Tanner was located and subsequently charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, pursuant to section 155.35(1) of the New York State Penal Law. Tanner was then escorted to the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await CAP Court. Following Tanner’s arraignment he was released on his own recognizance.
