According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, two area men have been arrested on several felony charges stemming from an incident that occurred in 2025.
On December 28, 2025, Sheriff’s Patrol received a complaint from a victim who reported that her wallet had gone missing the day prior and then received alerts from two New Hartford area stores that the victim’s credit cards had been fraudulently used in these stores.
Patrol investigated the report and due to the crimes being of a felony level, the investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit.Further investigation identified both suspects as being Louis Sgroi, age 35, and Thomas Wall, age 33, both of Utica.
After both men were identified and all attempts to locate Wall and Sgroi were unsuccessful, Arrest Warrants were sought for each male for the following charges:
-Louis Sgroi: Grand Larceny 4th, a Class E Felony, and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th (Credit Cards), Class E Felonies.-Thomas Wall: Grand Larceny 4th, a Class E Felony, and 2 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th (Credit Cards), Class E Felonies.On March 30, 2026, Sgroi was located in the City of Utica and arrested on unrelated charges. Sgroi was transported to the correctional facility where he was turned over to the Sheriff’s Warrants Unit where he was processed and held for arraignment at CAP Court. After the arraignment, Sgroi was held at the jail without bail.
On April 17, 206, Sheriff’s Patrol received information that the New York State Police had Wall in custody on unrelated charges. Wall was turned over to the Sheriff’s Road Patrol in New Berlin and was transported back to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and held for arraignment at CAP Court. After arraignment, Wall was remanded to the county jail without bail.
Both men will be appearing in New Hartford Town Court.
