According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a New Hartford Dentist has been arrested after a joint law enforcement investigation.
In January of 2026, the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, began an investigation into Dentist Lawrence B. Marks, age 76, who both resides and has a practice in the Town of New Hartford, for prescribing and over prescribing narcotics to patients whom were not being actively treated by him.
The Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement gathered information in their investigation and in April joined with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Sheriff’s Office to assist in furthering the case. On May 13, 2026, Investigators from the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, Drug Enforcement Administration and Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office went to Marks’ practice and gathered further information. Marks was subsequently arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with two counts of Criminal Sale of a Prescription for a Controlled Substance by a Practitioner, which are Class C Felonies, and one count of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, a Class E Felony.
After arrest processing, Marks was held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment in CAP Court.
