**Rome Westernville Rd has been reopened to the public at this time**
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, at approximately 5:32 p.m., deputies responded to a single car motor vehicle crash that occurred on Rome Westernville Rd, near Golf Course Rd, in the City of Rome. Upon deputies arrival, it was determined that a 2017 Honda HRV was traveling in a southerly direction on Rome Westernville Rd when the vehicle veered into the northbound lane, drove off of the eastern shoulder of the roadway, and struck an embankment which caused the vehicle to flip over end over end multiple times before coming to rest. Both occupants of the vehicle sustained serious physical injuries. The operator was identified as, Philip Spinelli (85), of Rome who was transported to Upstate University Hospital, via Mercy Flight for further evaluation. The passenger was identified as Jean Spinelli (79) of Rome, who was transported to Rome Hospital, via AmCare Ambulance for further evaluation. The primary cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time and more information may be released at a later date.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by members of the NYSP, Mercy Flight, AmCare Ambulance, Lake Delta Fire Department, Rome Fire Department, and North Country Towing.
