According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on May 18th, 2026 at around 4:22 P.M., Road Patrol Deputies responded to the area of Oriskany Blvd. and State Route 291 in the Town of Whitestown for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with injuries.

Patrol Deputies determined after investigation that Benjamin Nelson (18) of Deerfield, was operating a 2021 Jeep in an easterly direction on Oriskany Blvd. when he failed to yield the right of way while attempting to make a left turn onto State Route 291. Nelson struck an Oneida County Sheriff’s Correction van going westbound on Oriskany Blvd. The driver of the transport van was Correction Transport Officer Samantha Wright accompanied by Transport Officer M. Spielmann. Inside the Transport Van were two incarcerated individuals. All four individuals in the transport van were transported to area hospitals for minor injuries. Nelson was issued a ticket returnable to Whitestown Town Court for a later date.

Patrol Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Whitesboro Fire Department, COCVAC, Kunkel Ambulance, and Whitestown Police Dept. New York State Police, along with Delahunt Towing and Yorkville Auto Works.
