According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, two inmates have been arrested as the result of an altercation in the Oneida County Correctional Facility.

On May 29, 2026, Road Patrol Deputies responded to the Oneida County Correctional Facility for an assault complaint. Deputies interviewed and spoke with the victim, who was also incarcerated at the Correctional Facility. It was reported that in the afternoon hours of May 28, 2026, two other inmates had entered the victim's cell, attacked the victim, and subjected the victim to physical contact. As a result of the physical altercation, the victim sustained a lower leg injury which required the victim to seek further treatment at the Wynn Hospital and was later released and returned to the Correctional Facility.

The case was then turned over to a member of the Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation. As a result of that investigation on June 8, 2026, Keith Westcott Jr, age 42 of Rome, and Michael Mullin, age 25 of Rome, were charged with one count each of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony. Both were then turned back over to the Correctional Facility to await arraignment in CAP Court at a later time. Both Westcott and Mullins were being held in the Correctional Facility on Parole violations.
