According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on July 11, 2026, at approximately 10:16 A.M., Deputies responded to a three-car motor vehicle accident, that occurred at the intersection of State Route 5 and State Route 233 in the Town of Westmoreland.

On scene, Deputies determined that Brian Burlingame, age 19, of New Hartford, NY, was traveling East on State Route 5 in a 1998 Chevy Pickup when he failed to stop at a red light. A 17-year-old Juvenile male was traveling North on State Route 233 in a 2018 Mazda SUV at the time Burlingame entered the intersection. The Mazda SUV then struck the pickup truck, causing the SUV to then strike a third vehicle driven by Daniel Meehan, age 67, of New Hartford , who was traveling West in a 2021 Jeep SUV. The Mazda SUV sustained heavy front end damage and eventually became fully engulfed in flames.

All parties were able to exit their vehicles and were evaluated on scene by medical personnel for non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old Juvenile male was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for non life threatening injuries. Deputies determined that Burlingame was at fault for the accident and was issued citations returnable to Westmoreland Town Court at a later time and date.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Kirkland Police Department, Westmoreland Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance, Scotty B Towing, and Kirkland Auto.
