According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol a Utica man has been arrested on Felony charges following an investigation.

On July 25, 2026, in the early morning hours, Road Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the Oneida County Correctional Facility regarding a property damage complaint. An investigation showed that Hassan Kasim, age 44, of Utica, had been brought into the Correctional Facility for pre-arraignment detention on a City of Utica Arrest Warrant for Trespass. While being booked into the Correctional Facility Kasim forcefully ripped an electronic signature pad from a facility booking computer. Kasim then threw the signature pad across the booking room area causing it to strike a concrete wall. Kasim was seen in CAP Court later in the morning on the 25th and ultimately released on the City of Utica Trespass Arrest Warrant.

Due to the damage caused to the signature pad an estimate needed to be obtained. Once the estimate was obtained the case was then turned over to a member of the Criminal Investigation Unit. Attempts were made by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit and Warrants Unit to locate Kasim, within the City of Utica, which were unsuccessful. An Arrest Warrant was then applied for and granted by the Town of Whitestown Court.

On August 27, 2026, Kasim was located and taken into custody by members of the City of Utica Police Department's Uniform Patrol Division. Kasim was then turned over to members of the OCSO Warrants Unit. Kasim was then transported to the Kurt B Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was processed and charged with one count of Criminal Mischief, in the Third Degree, a Class E Felony. Kasim was then turned over to Corrections Staff at the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await arraignment in CAP Court. Kasim was then released on his own recognizance from CAP Court to appear at a later date and time in Whitestown Court.
