This afternoon at the Sheriff’s Office, we were honored to have a visit with Robert Loran who resides in Central Square. Robert was a Deputy Sheriff in Oneida County in the 1950’s and 1960’s working for three different Sheriffs (Sheriff Baker, Sheriff Eastman, and Sheriff Piccola). Deputy Loran worked at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for 11 years before transferring to the North Syracuse Police Department.

In addition to serving on the road patrol, Deputy Loran was a member of the Sheriff’s Boat Patrol and Dive Team.

Robert is also a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was also a member of the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department when he resided here.

Robert shared a lot of stories along with his scrapbook filled with newspaper articles, training certificates, and various awards he received.

He enjoyed his time with us today touring the building where he started his law enforcement career nearly 70 years ago. He also checked out some of today’s police equipment & technology and met with several members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you for your service Mr. Loran!
