Recently, Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol was appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul to serve as Chairman of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC). This is a non-paid appointment and the council meets quarterly in Albany at DCJS.

Among many other responsibilities, the Municipal Police Training Council sets mandatory training requirements for police and peace officers, certifies instructors & minimum standards for in-service trainings, and issues model policies that assist agencies with development of policies and procedures on current and emerging topics in policing.

Sheriff Maciol was also recognized yesterday for previously serving for eight years (2016-2024) on the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. Sheriff Maciol had to step down from the Law Enforcement Accreditation Council in order to accept the new appointment as Chairman of the Municipal Police Training Council.
