According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a 17 year old female was injured in a one car motor vehicle accident on State Route 49 in the City of Rome.
On December 30th, 2024 at approximately 12:10 am, Deputies were dispatched to the area of State Route 49 at the Martin Street ramp for a report of a one car motor vehicle accident. After an investigation, Deputies determined that the 17 year old operator was driving a 2021 Jeep Compass westbound on State Route 49 in the City of Rome before colliding with a guide rail while attempting to take the Martin Street exit. Deputies determined that unsafe speed was the primary contributing factor of the collision. The operator was transported to Rome Health for minor, non life threatening injuries. The operator was issued a citation for unsafe speed returnable to the Rome City Court on a later date. The name of the 17 year driver will not be released.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by AMCARE Ambulance, the City of Rome Fire Department, and the New York State Police.
