Update

According to Sheriff Robert Maciol of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, On January 31st, 2025 at about 7 PM deputies were dispatched to Prospect St in the Town of Vernon for a one car accident.

The crash investigation was turned over to members of the Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Identification Unit. Throughout further investigation, it was discovered that Jeremiah A. Craft (48), of Oneida, was operating a 2015 Toyota Prius westbound on Prospect St, in the Town of Vernon, when Craft moved from his lane unsafely, driving off the northern shoulder of the roadway and striking a tree head on. Craft was transported to Oneida Health by Vineall Ambulance for his injuries. Craft was pronounced deceased at Oneida Health. The crash and contributing factors are still being investigated by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by members of the NYSP, Oneida City Police Department, Sherill Police Department, Oneida Castle Volunteer Fire Department, and Vineall Ambulance.
