Two in Serious Condition from 2-Car Crash
According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol road patrol deputies responded to a two vehicle collision around 5:30 PM Saturday on Route 8 in the Town of Paris just north of Larson Road. Youma Bashir, 29 was driving a 2019 Ford Escape southbound when she lost control of her vehicle on the snow covered roadway. The front seat passenger Haga Zagrin, 52, and the rear passengers, Sharif Bashir, 24, and Koudi Bashir, 26 all of Utica had to be extricated from the vehicle. The vehicle began to swerve in the roadway crossing over a double solid yellow line into the lane of travel of a 2022 Toyota Highlander being driven by Denise Land. Land was traveling northbound on Route 8 with her two passengers. A 16 year old female front seat passenger and Jadyn Land, 20 all of Cassville were also all extricated from the vehicle by members of the Cassville Fire Department. All three females were transported to Wynn Hospital by Ambulance for their injuries which are not considered to be life threatening. Youma is currently in critical but stable condition, and Koudi is also in critical condition. Haga and Sharif are both in stable condition.
At this time the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the crash with the assistance of the Forensic ID Unit and members of the Reconstruction team. We are still investigating but the wind and snow covered roads were a factor at the time of the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Cassville Fire Department, Clayville Fire Department, Sauquoit Fire Department, Edwards Ambulance, Kunkel Ambulance, West Winfield Ambulance, and Bridgewater Ambulance.
