According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert M. Maciol Road Patrol deputies responded to a single car fatal crash on Cooper Street in the Town of Westmoreland between Station Hill Road and Creaser Road around 1:05 AM. Cody Tarkowski, 22 of Westmoreland was driving a 2012 Nissan Titan pick-up truck westbound on Cooper Street when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to travel off the northern shoulder and strike a telephone pole. Tarkowski was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on scene. His passenger, Gabrielle Gerace, 26 also of Westmoreland was transported to Wynn Hospital by COCVAC Ambulance for evaluation and minor injuries. The Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the crash with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit and the Reconstruction Team.

The crash is still under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by members of the New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department, and COCVAC.
