According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, just before 9:30 this morning, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High/Middle School staff were informed of a social media post that depicted a student seated in a vehicle with what appeared to be a handgun in view.
VVS staff then notified the Special Patrol Officer assigned to the school and VVS High/Middle School was placed in a hold-in-place while members of Patrol and the Juvenile Aid Unit responded to investigate. An air-powered replica of a Glock pistol was located and secured from the parking lot without incident. No students or staff members on campus were in danger at any time.
A seventeen year old juvenile was charged with Making a threat of mass harm (Class B misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds (Violation), and Obstruction of Governmental Administration 2nd degree (Class A misdemeanor) and issued appearance tickets returnable to Oneida County Juvenile Probation. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office is continuously committed to ensuring the safety of our schools and communities.
