With temperatures expected to exceed 90 degrees in the coming days, the members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office want to raise awareness about the dangers of heat buildup inside vehicles.
A car's windows function like a greenhouse, trapping heat and sunlight, which can quickly raise the temperature inside the vehicle, endangering both people and pets. Even if the outside temperature feels relatively mild, it only takes a few minutes for the interior to become dangerously hot.
If you see a vehicle parked with occupants (whether human or animal) left unattended on a warm day, please consider calling 911.With area temperatures expected to be above 90 degrees the next few days, the members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office would like to make aware the dangers of heat elevation inside your vehicle.
A vehicle’s windows act like a greenhouse, trapping the rising heat and sunlight, while also heating the individuals and pets inside the car. The sun can heat the car to deadly temperatures in a matter of minutes. Even though the temperature outside may feel relatively cool, it only takes a small amount of time for the temperature to increase to a dangerous level.
