**Stay Safe This 4th of July: A Message from the Oneida County Sheriff's Office**

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Sheriff's Office is committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday for all members of our community. The 4th of July often brings exciting fireworks displays, parades, and family gatherings. We urge everyone to keep the following tips in mind to ensure a safe celebration:

**Fireworks Safety**: Only attend public fireworks displays conducted by professionals. They are trained to handle fireworks safely. If you choose to use legal sparkling devices at home, follow all New York State guidelines. Always keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case of emergencies and never ignite fireworks indoors or near flammable materials.

**Personal Safety**: Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Designate a meeting spot for family and friends in case you get separated during festivities.

**Boating Safety**: If you plan to enjoy the water, ensure you have all necessary safety equipment on board, including life jackets for all passengers. Never operate a boat under the influence of alcohol.

**Driving Safety**: If you plan to drink, please designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service.

**Stay Hydrated**: With summer heat in full swing, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially when attending outdoor events.

"The 4th of July is a wonderful time to celebrate with friends and family," said Sheriff Maciol. "We encourage everyone to enjoy the holiday while taking the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their loved ones safe." We wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day.
