According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on July 15th, 2025, at approximately 7:37 A.M., Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Cooper Street and Creaser Road in the Town of Westmoreland for a report of a three car personal injury motor vehicle accident.
Upon the completion of the Deputies investigation into the accident it was determined that, Karen Wands (52 YOA) of Blossvale NY, was operating a Red, 2019 Dodge Durango in a Southerly direction on Creaser Road approaching the two-way stop sign at the intersection of Cooper Street. Wands then proceed through the intersection failing to yield the right of way at the stop sign at the intersection. Simultaneously, Paul Ford (61 YOA), of Oriskany Falls NY, was operating a White, 2016 Lincoln 4-door sedan, in an Easterly direction on Cooper Street approaching the intersection of Creaser Road. As Wands' vehicle proceeded through the intersection, Fords' vehicle collided with the rear passenger quarter panel of Wands' vehicle with its front passenger headlight/front bumper area. This initial collision caused Wand's vehicle to propel into the Northern lane of travel of Creaser Road where she then collided head-on with a Red, 2021 BMW SUV, operated by Wendy Hutchings (48 YOA), of Westmoreland NY who was traveling in a Northerly direction on Creaser Road. After the second occurrence of collision between Wands' and Hutchings, Wands' vehicle was then propelled in an Easterly direction into a series of trees where her vehicle came to rest on the Eastern shoulder/tree filled area on Creaser Road. Hutchings' vehicle came to rest in the middle of the roadway on Creaser Road just South of the intersection of Cooper Street. Fords' vehicle continued Easterly after rotating one hundred and eighty degrees and exited the roadway to the Southern shoulder where his vehicle came to rest in the front yard of an address on Cooper Street.
Wands was evaluated on scene and transported via AmCare Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for complaints of neck pain, injuries considered non-life threatening. Hutchings was evaluated on scene and transported via AmCare Ambulance to Wynn hospital for complaints of pain to her right leg and left arm, injuries considered non-life threatening. Ford was evaluated on scene and declined further medical assistance.
Wands was issued a universal traffic summons for the violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law 1142(a) failure to yield right of way at a stop sign. Returnable to Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office ID Unit, New York State Police, Westmoreland Fire Department, and AmCare Ambulance.
