According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, around 3:35pm on August 21st, 2025, Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle personal injury motor vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 233, in the Town of Westmoreland at the intersection of West Carter Rd.

Upon deputies arrival and subsequent investigation, it was determined that Benjamin Fields (41 YOA) of Dallas, Texas, was operating a Black Ford F150 from a stop sign on West Carter Rd and failed to yield right of way at the stop sign while he attempted to execute a left hand turn Southerly. Subsequently, a grey Nissan Sentra operated by Matthew Mahoney (32 YOA) of Clarks Mills, New York, was traveling Northbound on 233 and was struck by the Ford. A passenger in Mahoney's vehicle, Laura Taylor (26 YOA), also of Clarks Mills, New York, suffered apparent minor injuries and was transported by Central Oneida County Ambulance to the Wynn Hospital for further evaluation.

Fields was issued a universal traffic summons returnable to Westmoreland Town Court on a later date.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Mike Jr’s Towing, Upstate Auto Towing, the Westmoreland Fire Department, Central Oneida County Ambulance, and the New York State Police for their assistance.
