According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Town of Westmoreland man has been arrested for assaulting another man. The investigation began on September 17, 2025, when Patrol Deputies responded to a state run facility located in the Town of Westmoreland for an Assault Investigation. Deputies determined that on the evening of September 16, 2025, one of the residents had assaulted another resident with a screwdriver. Due to the felony nature of the incident, the case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.An Investigator within the unit determined that Keith Nickerson, age 46 of Westmoreland, had used the screwdriver in an attempt to stab the victim in the head. The victim had moved enough during the attack where he was not directly struck in the head and sustained a minor injury to his temple.On September 23, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Unit arrested Nickerson and charged him with one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor. Nickerson was transported to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed. After processing, Nickerson was held for arraignment in CAP Court. After arraignment, Nickerson was held on $2,000 cash bail.An Order of Protection was also requested on behalf of the victim.
