According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, a Town of Marshall man was arrested after a domestic dispute investigation.

On November 23, 2025, the Sheriff's Office Road Patrol Unit responded to an address in the Town of Marshall for reports of a domestic dispute. At the conclusion of the investigation, Derek S. Schmidt, age 31, was arrested due to New York State mandatory arrest requirements. Schmidt was charged with Strangulation in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Unlawful Imprisonment, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Schmidt was processed at the Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Building where he was held pending an arraignment in CAP Court. After arraignment, Schmidt was held on $2,500 cash bail and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
