Preparing for Potential Inclement Weather

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to prepare for forecasted winter weather expected in the coming days. Conditions may include heavy snowfall in the northern portions of the county, dangerously low temperatures with wind chills forecasted at -20°F and lower. Taking steps now can help reduce disruptions, improve safety, and ease stress during severe weather.

Residents are encouraged to:

Have emergency supplies readily available, including food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, and other essential items

Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, warnings, and emergency notifications

Follow guidance and instructions from local law enforcement and emergency management officials

Remain vigilant, stay informed, and check on family members, neighbors, and friends—especially seniors and those who may need additional assistance

Pet Safety:Bring pets indoors whenever possible. Animals left outside are at serious risk in extreme cold. Ensure pets have adequate shelter, unfrozen water, and protection from wind and snow. Limit time outdoors and watch for signs of cold-related distress.

Please continue to monitor forecasts and be prepared to adjust plans as conditions change. Your preparedness helps keep you, your family, and your community safe.
