According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, on February 15, 2026 at 8:20 PM, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office responded to Route 12 near Route 28 in the Town of Trenton for a two-car minor personal injury motor vehicle accident involving an Oneida County Sheriff’s marked patrol vehicle. Deputy Zachary Held, 23, had been conducting stationary traffic enforcement and was parked in a lot off from the west side of Route 12 and facing South. Deputy Held entered the roadway to conduct a traffic stop of an uninvolved vehicle which was traveling northbound when his marked patrol vehicle, a 2025 Ford Explorer, and a 2015 Honda Civic operated by Mariah Depan (20) of New York Mills, which had been traveling southbound collided. Barneveld Fire Department and Northstar Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Depan was transported to the Wynn Hospital for complaints of pain. Her passenger, Jace Diehl, 22, of New York Mills, and Deputy Held were each evaluated at the scene by EMS and released. Both vehicles were towed from the scene as a result of the damage. The accident is currently under investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and further details will be released. The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted on-scene by the New York State Police, Barneveld Fire Department, and Northstar Ambulance. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
