According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a City of Rome man was arrested after an investigation into an order of protection violation.

In December of 2025, the Domestic Violence Unit received a report regarding order of protection violations that had occurred in the Town of Westmoreland. During the investigation, it was discovered that Joseph M. Mendoza, age 49, had contacted the protected party on a stay away order of protection, just hours after being released from Oneida County Jail for the same crime. On February 16th, 2026, members of the Sheriff's Office Warrants Unit located and arrested Mendoza without incident. Mendoza was charged with Aggravated Family Offense, a Class E felony, and Criminal Contempt 2nd, a Class A misdemeanor. Mendoza was transported to the Law Enforcement Building where he was processed and held pending an arraignment in CAP Court.
