Oneida County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center(CAC), announces the arrest of a City of Rome man, as the result of an investigation regarding physical abuse of a young male child at a residence in the City of Rome. The investigation was conducted by Oneida County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Melissa Bolton, who is assigned at the CAC. Through investigation, it was learned that in April of 2025, William Coonrod Jr. tied the legs of a juvenile male with rope, which restricted his movement and caused significant bruising around the juvenile's legs.
On April 2, 2026 Coonrod Jr. was located in the City of Rome and taken into custody by Sgt. Bolton and OCSO Inv. L. Dillenbeck, who were assisted by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol Division.
Coonrod Jr. was charged with one count each of Assault in the Third Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, all of which are Class A Misdemeanors. Coonrod Jr. was transported to the OCSO Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was processed and then turned over to the OCSO Correctional Facility pending arraignment in CAP Court on this date. An order of protection has been requested on behalf of the child.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information relative to this investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Bolton at 315-732-3990, ext. 85552.
