According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Herkimer County woman was arrested after a traffic stop in the Town of New Hartford. On April 3, 2026, at about 10:57 PM, a Sheriff’s DWI Patrol unit was on State Route 840 when he observed several vehicle and traffic violations on a 2015 Dodge Ram that was being southeasterly. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the truck, which was being driven by 26-year-old Hannah Coffin, of Poland, NY. During the traffic stop, the deputy observed signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests led to Coffin’s arrest, and upon further investigation, an illegal AR-15 style unserialized “ghost gun” rifle was located inside the truck, which was subsequently seized.Coffin was transported back to the Sheriff’s Office where she was charged by Patrol with DWI and other traffic infractions. Patrol also charged Coffin with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, which is a Class A Misdemeanor, since the frame/receiver on the rifle did not have a serial number. Coffin was further charged by a Sheriff’s Investigator with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Possession of an Assault Weapon), which is a Class D Felony, since the rifle had a detachable magazine and several other assault rifle components. After processing, Coffin was held for arraignment at CAP Court where bail was set at $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond.Coffin is scheduled to appear in New Hartford Town Court at a later date.
