According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol an inmate at the Oneida County Correctional Facility has been arrested.
On April 10, 2026, a physical altercation took place in one of the housing unit's recreation rooms. As result of the altercation the victim, who is also an inmate at the Correctional Facility, suffered a facial injury, which required further medical treatment at an outside medical facility. Road Patrol Deputies were made aware of the incident on April 14, 2026, and an investigation commenced. Due to the extent of the victim's injury, the case was later turned over to a member of the Criminal Investigation Unit.
On April 28, 2026, Jason E. Johnston, age 43, was brought over to the Kurt B Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony. Johnston was arraigned in CAP Court later that evening and remanded back to the Correctional Facility without bail.
Johston was originally being held at the Correctional Facility without bail on a Burglary Charge out of Oneida County Court and also had a charge of Criminal Mischief out of Rome City Court.
Johnston is due to appear in the Town of Whitestown Court at a later date and time to answer to the Assault charge.
