According to the Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on June 26th, 2026, at approximately 2:00 P.M., Deputies responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries, that occurred on State Route 5 in the Town of Vernon.

On scene, Deputies determined that Heath Coville, of Vernon NY, was traveling west on State Route 5, when he began to turn left onto Bleeker Rd. Coville failed to yield the right of way on a left turn to oncoming traffic, subsequently striking a vehicle that was traveling east on State Route 5, being operated by Katelyn Gates of West Winfield NY.

Gates was transported by Edwards Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for an evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

Citations were issued as a result of the accident investigation.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Vernon Fire Department, Vernon Center Fire Department, Edwards Ambulance, Upstate Auto, and RJ's Auto.

The roadway has since been completely reopened to traffic.
