According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, a Herkimer man has been arrested on several charges stemming from a dispute in the Town of Westmoreland.
On July 7, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Eureka Road for a report of a dispute where Justin Ramos, age 38, was driving and stopped to engage in a verbal argument with two people that he knew. During the argument, Ramos exited his vehicle, engaged in the argument, re-entered his vehicle, lit an explosive and threw it in the direction of both people that he had been arguing with before leaving the scene. The people that Ramos was arguing with needed to retreat to safety to avoid injury. There were no injuries or property damage.
Ramos then drove to Herkimer where he engaged in another incident with different individuals and was arrested on different charges.
Due to the nature of the incident that occurred in Westmoreland, the case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
During the investigation, witnesses and evidence were located and an arrest warrant was obtained for Ramos’ arrest.
On July 13, 2026, Ramos was released from Herkimer County Jail and was arrested on the arrest warrant. He was transported back to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed for the charges of Menacing in the Second Degree (two counts, Class A Misdemeanors), Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (two counts, Class A Misdemeanors) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (one count, a Class D Felony).
After processing, Ramos was held at the jail to await arraignment at CAP Court. Ramos was subsequently released on his own recognizance.
