According to Oneida County Sheriff, Robert Maciol, a Utica man was arrested following a routine traffic stop.

On September 24th, 2026, around 2:02 PM, Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Route 12, in the City of Utica for a vehicle in violation of the NYS Vehicle & Traffic Law. Further investigation lead Deputies to learning the passenger of the vehicle currently had an active Stay Away Order of Protection in place, protecting them from the operator of the vehicle. As a result, Tyreese Lanier (26) of Utica, was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Family Offense, a Class E Felony pursuant to section 240.75(1) of the New York State Penal Law, and one count of Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor pursuant to section 215.50(3) of the New York State Penal Law. Lanier was transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for processing. Lanier was arraigned at CAP Court and released on his own recognizance.

Road Patrol Deputies were assisted by the NYSP and members of the Criminal Investigations Unit. Lanier is due to appear at Utica City Court at a later date and time.
