UPDATE:
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on November 4, 2026, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle. The accident occurred on State Route 20 at the intersection of Madison Street in the Town of Sangerfield at 1:10 PM. Sheriff’s Investigators determined that Kenneth Northrop, age 68 of Waterville, was driving a 2025 Mitsubishi passenger vehicle south on Madison Street and stopped at the intersection of State Route 20. After stopping at the intersection, Northrop attempted to cross over Route 20 onto Newberry Road when he struck a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle that was being driven westerly on Route 20 by Evan Downen, age 20 of Oriskany Falls. Downen was ejected from the motorcycle.
Downen sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene by members of the Waterville Volunteer Fire Department, Paramedics from Central Oneida County Ambulance Corps and Paramedics from Mercy Flight. He was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center by Mercy Flight, but despite all life-saving attempts, Downen passed away from his injuries later in the evening.
The investigation is continuing but no further details will be released.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by members of the Waterville and Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Departments, Central Oneida County Ambulance Corps, Mercy Flight and the New York State Department of Transportation.
