Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s most anticipated…
Super Bowl Sunday is one of America’s most anticipated sporting events, bringing friends and families together to watch the big game. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most dangerous days of the year on our roadways due to impaired driving.
To help keep our community safe, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office will join the New York State Police along with local law enforcement agencies this weekend in a coordinated effort to crack down on impaired and intoxicated driving.
“The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office has zero tolerance for impaired and intoxicated driving and the needless tragedies it causes,” said Sheriff Maciol. “We are sending a clear message: if you drive impaired, you will be stopped. Drive sober or get pulled over.”
Impaired driving crashes and fatalities are 100% preventable. Planning ahead—such as designating a sober driver—should be at the top of everyone’s Super Bowl checklist. There are also several simple steps everyone can take to help save lives.
“Super Bowl Sunday should be a time for celebration, not tragedy,” said Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. “Impaired driving is entirely preventable, and there is no excuse for putting lives at risk. I fully support the coordinated enforcement efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, State Police and our local law enforcement partners, and I urge everyone to plan ahead, make responsible choices and help ensure that everyone gets home safely.”
If You’re Attending a Super Bowl Party:Designate a sober driver before the party begins and hand over your car keys.
Pace yourself by eating food, taking breaks, and alternating alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic beverages.
If you don’t have a sober ride, call a cab, rideshare, friend, or family member—or stay where you are until you are sober.
Never allow a friend to drive if they are impaired or intoxicated. Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.
Always buckle up—it remains your best protection on the road.
If You’re Hosting a Super Bowl Party:Remember, hosts can be held legally liable if a guest they served causes a DWI crash.
Encourage guests to plan for sober transportation in advance or assist with arranging rides.
Provide plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverage options.
Keep contact information for local cab or rideshare services available.
Take the keys from anyone who is considering driving while impaired.
"Please celebrate responsibly and make safety the real winner this Super Bowl Sunday," said Oneida County STOP-DWI Coordinator Daniel DeLuke.
