According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol; on April 15th, 2026, at about 9:00pm, Deputies responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on State Route 49 in the City of Rome.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Julio Torres, age 57, of Rome, NY, was operating a 2018 Jeep in a westerly direction when he rear-ended a 2019 Toyota operated by Kyle Ossont, age- 31, of Rome, NY. A deer entered the roadway from a northerly direction causing Ossont to utilize his brakes. Deputies determined that Torres was following Ossont too closely, which caused the vehicles to collide. Torres was issued a traffic ticket for Following Too Closely, returnable to Rome City Court at a later date. Torres was transported by Amcare Ambulance to Rome Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
