On Wednesday morning, Sheriff Maciol participated in a press conference with the County Executive, the Mayors of Utica & Rome, local organizations & sponsors, officials from the NY Special Olympics, and most importantly - our Special Olympics Athletes! With the 2026 Special Olympics New York Summer Games happening here in Oneida County in just a few weeks, today’s event was held to put a call out for volunteers.

The Summer Games are June 5-6 and will be right here in Oneida County and we will be welcoming more than 1,200 athletes and coaches, along with their families, to our community. The first weekend in June is about more than just competition, it’s a powerful celebration of inclusion, determination, and community.
