National Correctional Officers and Employees Week

In 1984, former President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, designating the first full week in May as National Correctional Officers Week, honoring those who put their lives on the line each day to protect the public and help guide incarcerated individuals toward becoming productive members of society.

In 1996, Congress expanded and renamed this observance to National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, recognizing all personnel serving in city, state, and federal correctional facilities.

Correction Officers maintain order, ensure security, and uphold professionalism within our facilities every day. They work in challenging environments, carrying out their duties under demanding circumstances while facing potential danger as part of their daily responsibilities.

Their commitment, resilience, and integrity does not go unnoticed.

In recognition of the vital role corrections professionals play in protecting our communities, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office proudly honors all correctional officers and employees, both within our agency and across the nation.
