According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Derrick O'Meara, who is the director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, a 41-year-old New York Mills man has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a child. In February of 2026, a complaint was received by the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) regarding sexual abuse of a child under the age of 11.

The case was assigned to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Dillenbeck, who is assigned to the CAC.

As a result of this investigation, the case was forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorneys' Office for possible Grand Jury consideration. The case was presented to the Grand Jury and an indictment was handed down charging Michael Vazquez, age 41, of New York Mills, with Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the first degree (a Class B-Felony), and Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree (a Class B-Felony). On July 23, 2026, Vazquez was located and arrested by Oneida County Sheriffs' Office Warrants Unit with the assistance of the United States Marshals NY/NJ Reigonal Fugitive Task Force, consisting of members of the Oneida County Sheriffs' Office, City of Utica Police Department, Town of New Hartford Police Department, New York State Police Violent Felony Warrants Unit, the Oneida County Probation Office, and United States Marshal Service. The United States Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office were assisted on scene by the City of Utica Police Department K9 Unit and K9 Vigo. Vazquez was arraigned on the charges in County Court and was remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, and services have been offered to the victim through the Child Advocacy Center.
