According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, on August 18, 2026, at approximately 8:41am, Deputies responded to the Oneida County Landfill in the Town of Ava for a reported bulldozer that had struck a pedestrian. Upon arrival, Deputies determined that an employee for the Landfill, Wasyl Hrim, age 64, of Boonville, was operating a John Deere 850L Bulldozer when he stopped and exited the bulldozer in order to open the rear door of a tractor trailer. Once Hrim was out, the bulldozer started to move forward, this is when he attempted to climb back into the bulldozer and he fell off the tracks, ultimately being run over by the track, sustaining serious injuries. Hrim was airlifted to Suny Upstate Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by NYSP, Boonville Ambulance, West Leyden Fire Department and Mercy Flight.
